Main research interests

My main interests are stellar winds and variability in hot stars. See the hot star page of the Landessternwarte for more information.

In addition, I work on instrumentation projects, presently the Carmenes instrument.

Other astronomical activities

The spectral atlas of the Luminous Blue Variable P Cygni, based on data published in Astron Astrophys. Suppl. 99, 167, is a useful resource for line identification in early-type emission-line stars.

In the past, I have worked on data reduction software for several astronomical instruments:

• FORS, the focal reducer low dispersion spectrograph for the ESO VLT and
• Feros, the Fiber-fed Extended Range Optical Spectrograph, originally used at the ESO 1.52-m telescope, and now available at the ESO/MPG 2.2-m telescope. A copy of Feros is currently being built for the Hexapod telescope.
